Canal Gate Table
Set with the challenge of designing an indestructible dining table for a couple of exuberant, social hosts - that would "like a worn-in blazer, actually increase in quality with the patina of age", Kennedy Woods chose a uniquely sourced reclaimed timber from a former lock gate on the Avon canal that has spent the last 100 years 'in the drink'. The timber, hand-selected and carefully machined to express its unique tonal quality, displays a blend between English Oak's natural pale straw hue and a blue-grey pigmentation within the wood's tannins, formed by the chemical reaction between water and steel during its former life. The piece showcases its massiveness and the crafted nature of its construction through a series of foxtail-wedged mortise and tenon joints, visibly present on the table and bench tops.
