Shipping Container Studios

Kennedy Woods designed a container scheme in the heart of Peckham's creative quarter. The development is the keystone in part of a wider strategy involving a new pedestrian route through from the high street, extending the existing retail arcade in order to reactivate businesses that are clustered across the broader Copeland Park industrial estate.

Conscious of the recent popularisation of container villages in London, we worked to develop a unique visual identity, cutting the long sides of the containers off and refitting a translucent sliding door facade system to maximise light ingress, and working in a palette of lightweight materials to emphasise the temporary nature of the ‘drop-in’ development.

The project gained planning permission is 2016 and work is ongoing. Read more about the process in this case study.
